Registration Opens!

Planning has begun for this year’s Ghostly Gallop 5K Run/Walk/Kids Fun Run.  In its 17th year, the event is scheduled for Sunday, October 22nd.  It is a major benefit for the Hudson Area Library.  New additions for this event include cash prizes and a costume competition.   Registration opens on July 22nd at www.GhostlyGallop.info

HUDSON – The 17th annual Ghostly Gallop 5K to benefit the Hudson Area Library will be held at Hudson High School on Sunday, Oct. 22.  The 5K course has been certified by the USA Track & Field and its entire length and will be closed to traffic for the duration of the race.  Other improvements include a runner’s costume competition, and cash prizes for top adult runners, the fastest team (up to 5 members), best costume and largest family entering in the combined events.

Race Director Gary Sheffer said, “We want a competitive race that will draw the area’s best runners and we also want to make it fun time for children, families and teams. It’s a great community event for Hudson and an important fundraiser for our library.”

Walkers can do the one-mile course or the full 5K.  Kids (and their parents) may prefer the flat, one-mile, out-and-back course that takes them past the Firefighting Museum. Timed to finish just prior to the start of the big race, the youngsters get to cross their finish line to the cheers and congratulations of the 5K runners – a nice bit of incentive for both kids and adults.

Members of the Ghostly Gallop committee are soliciting monetary and in-kind support to make the race a success. “There are many ways businesses and individuals in the area can participate and support the race,” said committee member Jay Neuschatz.  “Naming opportunities are available for water stations, mile-maker signs, and for the prizes for runners and the costume contest.” Organizers recently welcomed the support of Columbia Memorial Hospital, which have graciously agreed to underwrite the First Aid Station on race day.

The GG5K is a benefit for the Hudson Area Library.  Now in its new home, the library is alive with programs for everyone – families seeking early literacy, youth exploring books, art and music, job seekers gaining new skills, seniors thriving on lifelong learning and community members enjoying free cultural performances.  Much more than a book repository, the new Hudson Area Library is a cultural center to the community.  Events like GG5K offer continued financial support for all these programs.

To join the list of sponsors, e-mail Gary Sheffer at Sheffer70@gmail.com.  To participate in the day’s events – either Run/Walk or Kid’s Fun Run, sign up at www.GhostlyGallop.info.  Registration opens on July 22nd.
