A Ghostly Gallop 5K Team Challenge

Just part of the team that LYF Fitness will field this year at The Ghostly Gallop 5K on October 22nd.  Team chief Kylah Campeta is challenging other businesses in Columbia County to form teams and compete against her crew.  For more information about this race, a benefit for the Hudson Area Library, go to www.GhostlyGallop.info.

HUDSON – When the first leaves drop from the trees, it’s time to begin training for the Ghostly Gallop 5K, the Hudson Area Library’s October fund raiser. This will mark the 17th year of running (and walking) in this community-wide event.

“The committee is ramping up right about now,” said Race Director Gary Sheffer. ”This is the time when we work hard to make sure everything falls into place.”  Among those details is the promotion of teams – a key ingredient in making the Ghostly Gallop fun, exciting and community-wide.  That’s where Team LYF comes in.

Kylah Campeta, owner of LYF Fitness at 209 Warren Street, is assembling a team of co-workers, friends and clients.  And that’s not all.  She’s also issuing a challenge.  “I want to reach out to other businesses to create teams, too,” she says.  “Maybe they can recruit staff members or relatives to represent their organizations,” she explains.  “It’s not just about the race – even though that part is great, it’s also getting a group together to support the Library. The bigger the group, the more fun and the more our Library benefits.” The LYF Team will include about 15 members.

Campeta is definitely using her professional expertise to get her team ready.  “Since my job is sports medicine and athletic performance training,” she says, “I am putting together a plan for each of the LYF Team members.”  Depending on ability, she schedules training backwards from race day so that participants will be fully prepared when it’s race time.
“I call it “couch to 5K,” she explains. “For those who are first timers, the plan starts at a low distance and gradually increases over the next 8 weeks.  You only run 2-3 times a week.”

The Ghostly Gallop 5K Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run is one of the Hudson Area Library’s main fund raisers for the year.  “More people than ever before are relying on the Library,” said Sheffer.  “Increased usage in all areas – programs, education, computer and Wi-Fi access, has skyrocketed since the move to the newly refurbished Armory at 51 North Fifth Street over a year ago.   And our operating expenses – like insurance, rent, electric, water, etc. continue to increase as well.  So, community support of all events is critical. We’re thrilled when business owners like Kylah come forward to support what we do for the community.  The more teams, the better!”
